چکیده

The unrelenting high unemployment/underemployment rates following the 2008 recession have become a possibly structural problem for the U.S. economy. Today’s jobseekers face many difficulties, some of which may be better addressed by understanding the mental models held by jobseekers towards being unemployed and underemployed. Rule developing experimentation identified three types of mental models towards unemployment: “I’m out of date”, “I still got it”, and “I need to adapt”. Each mental model carries with it suggestions about what customized courses of action policymakers can recommend for the individual. This paper discusses the findings and implications for policymakers and unemployment/underemployed service providers. Disciplines Business Comments Revised on 5/15/14. Online Job Search and Unemployment Insurance during the Great Recession

The 2007‐2009 U.S. recession led to large increases in the potential duration of unemployment benefits (PBD), which could decrease job search effort. I measure search effort by job applications on the popular website Careerbuilder.com. Using an event study and nonlinearities in the relationship between PBD and the unemployment rate, I find that a one‐week increase in PBD decreases state‐le...

Modeling Factors Affecting Tax Evasion in Iran's Economy Based on the Bayesian averaging approach

This study seeks to model tax evasion and identify how effective factors affect tax evasion in the Iranian economy. Recent models show the failure of traditional models; Models do not have enough ability to model hidden variables such as tax evasion. The present study considers this failure in identifying explanatory variables and experimental model design. To achieve this, the Bayesian averagi...

Mental health among the unemployed and the unemployment rate in the municipality.

BACKGROUND Previous research has shown that unemployment experiences increase the risk of poor mental health and that this effect differs depending on individual characteristics.
